Eugene Jacques Bullard holds the distinction of being the first Black pilot to engage in combat and the sole African American pilot during World War I. Although he was unable to serve in the U.S. military, he joined the French Foreign Legion in 1914. This #BlackHistoryMonth, we pay tribute to his remarkable service as a decorated pilot and his enduring legacy.
